SARIE NIJBOER is a freelance curator, art writer, and designer of art books and zines, based in Berlin.

Her practice is centred around the critical questioning of (visual) language - how it functions, fails and shapes institutional and societal structures - while exploring broader sociopolitical themes, collective memory and human and non-human agency.

Since 2023, she has been a freelance curator at Villa Heike Kunstverein in Berlin, an art space dedicated to the technical image, with a particular focus on photography. The program explores how the technical image shapes power structures, historical narratives, and collective perception. In her role as curator, she has curated exhibitions that investigate the evolving relationship between the technical image, identity, truth, and perception.

SARIE NIJBOER completed the master's programme Cultures of the Curatorial at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and studied design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. She co-founded textur, a text-based (maga)zine that deals with the structures of the art environment, and initiated Conversas Berlin, a weekly series of conversations.

In addition to her curatorial and writing activities, SARIE NIJBOER works with artists, curators and art institutions on the project development and coordination of various exhibitions, (dance) performances and lectures, including with the choreographers Alex Baczyński-Jenkins and Ian Kaler, 15. Triennale für Kleinplastik Fellbach, Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt, LAGE EGAL Berlin, Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Akademie Schloss Solitude Stuttgart, Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam, Willem Twee Music and Visual Arts Den Bosch.

She was a fellow for art coordination at Akademie Schloss Solitude (2019–2020), a board member of anorak e.V. (2020–2021), and participated in the Pink Island Research Residency in Jeju, South Korea (2018). She is currently a board member of Villa Heike e.V.
